Course Description
Instructor-led training for wildland firefighter qualifications that meets NWCG position training requirements
Wildland Fire Safety Training Annual Refresher RT-130 4-6 hours
This annual refresher instructs personnel on operations and decision-making issues related to fire line safety in order to recognize and mitigate risk, maintain safe and effective practices, and reduce accidents and near misses.
Work Capacity Test (WCT) Pack Test is included with RT-130 and administered by an NRGC MOU Training Provider.
ARDUOUS = 3 miles, 45lb, 45min
MODERATE = 2 miles, 25lb, 30min
LIGHT DUTY = 1 mile, 16min
*Firefighters who receive basic fire training are not required to take RT-130 in the same calendar year
RT-130 is required for designated positions in order to maintain currency for all personnel assigned to positions with fire line duties, and for any position assigned to the fire line for non-suppression tasks.
S-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior 7 hours
This is the first and foundational wildland fire behavior course. You will be introduced to the basic concepts of wildland fire behavior, including:
· The primary wildland fire environment components: fuels, weather, and topography;
· How characteristics and interactions of fuels, weather, and topography affect fire behavior
· How fire behavior affects risk to firefighters.
Upon completing S-190, you will be familiar with basic terminology used in wildland fire, the fire triangle, key characteristics of the primary wildland fire environment components (fuels, weather, and topography), critical fire weather factors resulting in extreme fire behavior, and how the alignment of fuels, weather, and topography can increase the potential for extreme fire behavior.
S-130 Firefighter Training Instructor Led Training 29 hours Field Exercise w/ Pack Test 8-12 hours
Course Prerequisite: S-190
Describe the purpose of the Standard Firefighting Orders and Watch Out Situations.
Describe what the Lookouts, Communications, Escape Routes, and Safety Zones (LCES) system is and how it relates to the Standard Firefighting Orders.

L-180 Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service 4 hours
You will be exposed to human performance concepts as part of basic wildland firefighter training.
This class provides you the opportunity to practice decision-making skills in an interactive simulation as a member of a fire crew, as well as apply your Human Factors knowledge to a variety of scenarios.
Upon completion, you will understand the responsibilities of addressing human performance issues regarding situation awareness and hazard identification, decision-making, and team cohesion.
Basic Firefighter II (FFT2)
S-190, S-130, & L-180
Instructor Led Training 12-24 hours
*Course Prerequisite: FFT2 Qualification
This course is designed to meet the training needs of the Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1). Topics include fire line reference materials, communications, and tactical decision-making.
This is a required course to be completed before a FFT1 taskbook can be completed.
S-131 is only available as instructor led (classroom) training. The course is designed to be interactive in nature. It contains class discussion and several tactical decision games designed to facilitate learning the objectives.
